Armadillo officinalis “red” species is of European origin and is close in coloration to the “orange crush” which originates from Sicily. Both are large, orange-to-red morphs that exhibit the signature “hissing”, which involves tucking themselves into a tight ball, rubbing their legs on the inside of their carapace to create a hiss-like sound.
